New frontiers

Hi, I’m Andy.

A lot of you reading this probably know me already from my previous blog, Twitter, or my photos — thanks for stopping by.  To the rest of you, hello!  This blog is kind of a personal experiment. Before this, I spent eight years blogging about Disneyland.  That blog, Dateline Disneyland, was a labor of love that was published every week and filled with dozens of photos along with plenty of news and some very impassioned commentary.  The weekly demands of that blog, along with various other factors, led to its eventual undoing and I stepped back from blogging for a much-needed break.  And now, here I am again, but this blog is not Dateline Disneyland.

So what is this blog?  Honestly, your guess is as good as mine but hopefully you’ll stick around while I figure it out.  Last year, my partner, Nick, and I traveled to Tokyo and Paris and after both, I returned home with a lot of photos and stories with no place to keep them.  So, at its most basic level, this site will be a repository for photos, videos, anecdotes, and experiences I accumulate while stumbling through my various travels — both domestic and abroad, in and out of theme parks.   Stumbling is the key word here, as I’m a terrible planner and an even worse navigator but after growing up going to Disneyland and visiting Walt Disney World in my teens; places like Disneyland, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom sparked my interest in visiting real places.  Thankfully, Nick has been on board with the traveling idea from the start and now that we’ve started, we can’t stop.

The plan is for something more focused to eventually come together here, but even if it doesn’t, hopefully my photos and ramblings are enough of something you can enjoy on your lunch break or share with some friends on Twitter.  Maybe I can convince Nick to put together some travel guides and plans at some point, since he’s really the brains behind our travel operation.  If you’d like to stay in the loop so you don’t miss out, follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and find us on Instagram for more random photos and maybe some videos.

When I closed the book on Dateline Disneyland, Disney had recently closed the Rivers of America and Disneyland Railroad for major changes to accommodate the construction of a new Star Wars attraction.  A year and a half later, Disneyland reopened its Rivers of America and Railroad with new views last weekend.  So, it felt right to kick off this blog, a new frontier for me, with a few photos from Disneyland’s new version of the frontier.  I’ve shared a lot of random thoughts on the new Rivers of America on my personal Twitter in recent days and maybe I’ll dig a little deeper into some those thoughts in a future blog here, but for now, I need to pack for an impromptu trip to Walt Disney World!

Welcome to WorldKey!

Good to see you finally return to blogging. The travel blogosphere could use more well-reasoned voices who are also talented photos (no joke).

Hopefully you’ll bring the same impassioned commentary to this as you did to Dateline Disneyland. Looking forward to reading more!

Cheers on this new more personal venture, Andy. Eager to see your broadened perspective, both visually and intellectually, both of which you approach with a uniquely talented eye.

  • So glad you are back in the Disney blogosphere, Andy! The guest posts about D23 were great, but looking forward to healthy criticism about Disney parks.

Your Twitter photos from Tokyo were great. Looking forward to your upcoming travels.

  • Always enjoyed your posts on Micechat, Andy, so will be bookmarking this site for sure! I love how the image at the top of this post fills my screen, it would be great if we could flip through all the photos in the post in full-screen, maybe via plug-in for your blog?
